This is an illustration I did based off of a moment in the book "An Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. In this moment, two friends, Arnold (left) and Rowdy (right) have their biggest fight yet. Arnold watches Rowdy storm away, thinking he has lost his friend forever.

Here are a few studies I did from Bambi last semester.
As a kid, I never really liked Bambi. It felt a bit slow. However, I watched it again recently for forest reference and now I think it is one of my favorite animated films! And, it led me to find an artist by the name of Tyrus Wong who did the most beautiful little pastels for the movie. They are now some of my favorite concept art. Forest scenes can get so complicated with twigs, leaves, branches, etc. Yet, Tyrus stripped each story moment down to it's purest essence. They are simple, poetic, and full of emotion. What more could you ask for? Plus I'm a sucker for pastel work.

We were lucky enough today to have David Pimentel come up to give us a lecture, teach us gesture drawing, and critique our work. David is a head of story at Dreamworks in LA and was also a student of Walt Stanchfield! Here are a few gestures I got out of his class.
